Instagram Etiquette Memo

Instagram officially has more users than Twitter.  Instead of tweeting, most of the world is now taking pictures of their dinner.  There aren't too many specific Instagram rules apart from posting offensive or nude photos.  Although you have the freedom to post (almost) anything you'd like, do yourself and your followers a favor by avoiding the following Instagram annoyances:

Not Choosing a Filter

Instagram is first and foremost a photo sharing app, however if you choose not to pick a filter, you are missing out on half the fun.

Posting Text Message Photos

Do your friends and family know their texts have been screencaped?  Yikes.

Spamming Followers With Too Many Pictures

Unlike Facebook, one cannot manage or filter their newsfeed.  If you are posting over eight photos each and every day, you may need an Instavention.  We want to miss you.  Do your best to enhance mystery every now and then.

Meme Overload

It's not that we don't like memes, but we want to see your original photos.  We want to know what's new with you.  If we wanted to see nothing but memes, we would begin a Tumblr account.

Posting Selfies in the Mirror

Selfies can make you feel confident on your best hair days.  However, taking "sexy" selfies in the bathroom mirror will make you look anything but sexy.  (Especially when you can see the reflection of your phone.)  Instagramers receive extra embarrassing narcissistic points for pursing their lips and creating the duck face.  Trust me, desperation doesn't look good on anyone.

Following Only Scantily Clad Women

For any men following (mostly) scantily clad women but not posting any pictures of your own....pray tell me, what are your intentions?

No Variety in Posts

We adore your photos of your babies and pets (really we do) but if these are the only posts you regularly share, it will drain your followers.  Unless your entire network shares your specific obsessions, chances are, your friends would like to see more variety.
